A UCLA Bruin recently posted a suggestion on the http://www.spartanthunder.com message board suggesting that San Jose, as the original and oldest CSU campus, market its sports teams as the "Cal State Spartans". Calling it a "no-brainer". Alumni from other schools like Berkeley, CSU Fullerton and Sonoma State have also expressed strong support for this.
The CSU Spartans have been advocating exactly that for over 2 years now, but have met resistance from the anti-California alumni who still dominate "San Jose State".

And the idea got blown out of the water.
The idea is a no-brainer indeed - as in lacking in brains.
Not so, my friend, only old Spartans who are comfortable with losing are against the idea.
All the smart people love it!
GO CAL STATE!
Is that why you (or your supporters) feel you have to keep polluting the wikipedia with inaccurate information?
Is that why you keep misrepresenting the timelines in the discussion boards on SpartanThunder?
You are living proof that there is a difference between being "smart" and being intelligent.
San Jose State University now, San Jose State University forever.
Ha! It is you San Jose State people who are the historic revisionists.
It's amazing that you despise the name of the State that built and maintained your school and educated you. That's one thing, but for you people to go back and rewrite history as you have is a crime against the State of California.
FACT: The "San Jose State Normal School" never existed.
It was "California State Normal School" from 1862 to 1887, and "State Normal School (at San Jose used sometimes)" from 1887 to 1921.
We've read the statutues. Have you?
FACT: The "San Jose State Normal School" never existed.
Who are you quoting?
Quoting the 1887 Act by the California Legislature, which changed the school's name to the:
"STATE NORMAL SCHOOL"
the appropriations act referred to the school as the:
"STATE NORMAL SCHOOL AT SAN JOSE"
UCLA was referred to as the State Normal School Branch Campus or something like that.
The idea that the 1887 Act changed the name to "San Jose State Normal School" is a myth.

Then you had better have a talk with the folks at sjsu.edu (ya know, the actual University whose name you are trying to change by fiat), as they have a different take on what happened in 1887:
1887 - California legislature provides that each normal school in the state is to be managed by a separate board of trustees. With this Act, the California State Normal School becomes the San Jose State Normal School.

Quite bluntly, I'm much more inclined to take the word of the university's website on its history timeline over yours.
The University's history webmaster has examined the law and admitted in writing that the school became the "State Normal School" in 1887 and not "San Jose State Normal School".
I hope she will change the inaccurate bit you referenced soon.
As for changing the school's name by fiat, isn't that what the anti-California SJSU Alumni Association did in 1974, without allowing students or all alumni to vote on it?
